Cold Chain Management is a rapidly growing field of interest focused on insuring that perishible products are maintained within well defined temperature ranges throughout the entire delivery chain from producer to consumer. Cold Chain Management systems utilize temperature logging devices that can record and store the temperature of a item over the entire time of its shipment insuring the receipient that the item’s temperature handling requirements have been maintained.
Triad’s latest via-configurable mixed signal platform, VCA-4, was designed to satisfy the needs of cold chain product developers. Common to all cold chain logging devices is the ability to accurately measure temperature, a real-time clock to measure time, non-volatile memory to store time and temperature readings, and a wireless RFID communications link. All of these features must be provided with very low power consumption to conserver battery life and reduce cost of the overal product.
The VCA-4 platform includes all of the features required to create a flexible wireless cold chain logger on a single integrated circuit. The VCA-4 contains ultra-low power analog and digital building blocks, on-board temperature sensor, battery assisted passive tag RFID interface resources, and 8K bytes of non-volatile memory.
